OUR PORTFOLIO & A SELECTION OF TRIPS
Our ever-expanding list of offerings is the fruit of over twenty-six years of tireless research on four continents and a drive to provide our travelers with the very best.
We craft our itineraries with the utmost care to unfold the wonders of the places we visit at a measured pace. At the same time, however, you’ll be amazed at how much you can see, do, and learn with us—travelers often tell us that it would take them at least double the time (with much frustration and hard work!) to accomplish all that we do with ease.
We generally meet after breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and adjourn between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. Typically, we have one meal a day together, almost always lunch which provides a wonderful and exciting midday break. This leaves evenings open for individual pursuits (stores in Europe generally don't close until 8:00 p.m.). Often our travelers gather for pre-dinner cocktails and set off for dinner together—you can count on us to suggest just the right restaurant, be it a small bistrot, a pizzeria or something more elaborate!
Private tours can always be configured to your specifications—for example, Venice can be combined with the larger Veneto region or the Italian Lakes, Italy can be combined with Austria, etc. We're always delighted to hear what you may have in mind!
Also, we often help our customers with their arrangements before and after a tour. As you’ll find, we’re enthusiastic about sharing our knowledge and insights with you, so never hesitate to ask.
We know you may have visited many of these cities or regions in the past (maybe even several times!), but have you been there with us? Our tours are so much fun that some of our clients have traveled with us to the same destinations more than once!
Whether you’re admiring a Renaissance masterpiece in a little out-of-the-way church in Tuscany, enjoying a superb lunch in a village near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, or relaxing with an aperitivo on a flower-filled terrace in Taormina, you’ll be thrilled at how everything on our trips comes together to create a marvelous travel experience with a perfect balance of touring and free time.
And remember, our trips are always fun and high-spirited—how could they not be?

Umbria!
Discover Italy's Cuore Verde!
Far less visited than Tuscany, its famous neighbor to the west, Umbria—known as Italy's Green Heart (Cuore Verde)—still remains something of a well-kept secret. With its green mountains, unspoiled river valleys, beautiful hill towns, breathtaking art and architecture, and delicious food and wine, this part of Italy never ceases to amaze and delight!
This region provides many opportunities to enjoy some easygoing country walks. Cooking enthusiasts, if they wish, can participate in a hands-on cooking lesson with a wonderfully accomplished chef.
We suggest six nights for this trip which is available in four-star and five-star versions.
The Côte d’Azur
The magic and charm of the French Riviera!
When Matisse first saw the dazzling light of the Côte d’Azur, he decided at once to make Nice his home! It is hard not to succumb to the intoxicating beauty of the Riviera, and countless visitors over many generations have made these spectacular shores their seasonal and even permanent residence.
Over the course of a wonderful week, enjoy many facets of this storied region, from inland villages perched high on craggy hills to the famously cosmopolitan stretches of the coast. At every turn encounter dazzling art and architecture, glamorous interiors, superb restaurants and breathtaking vistas all bathed in that irresistible light that gives this corner of France its unique Mediterranean (and uniquely French!) character.
We suggest six nights for this five-star hotel trip.
Bordeaux, Aquitaine & Charente
Châteaux, vineyards & the Atlantic coast—this eye-opening trip has it all!
Two regions of contrasts and ever-changing landscapes, Aquitaine and Charente stretch inland from the Atlantic with their celebrated ports of Bordeaux and La Rochelle, world-renowned wines, unsurpassed food, and artistic traditions that never cease to enchant!
On a recent trip to this region, our home was a luxurious five-star Renaissance-style château north of Bordeaux within easy reach of many attractions, including Cognac. Of course, this was a culinary adventure too, and we dined at several Michelin-starred restaurants and other outstanding regional tables (three of our restaurants had two Michelin stars, and two, including our hotel's restaurant, had one).
We suggest six nights for this trip. You might also consider adding a day at Arcachon to enjoy some of the best oysters in the world and see (and perhaps climb!) the incredible sand dune, the tallest in Europe.
Barcelona!
Kaleidoscopic, brilliant, colorful Barcelona, the eternal enchantress of the Mediterranean!
Barcelona has captured the imaginations of travelers and artists of all periods (Picasso, for one, arrived in 1895 at the age of fourteen and was profoundly marked by his time here before leaving for Paris at twenty-four). Native artistic stars whose whimsical and monumental works nourish the heart and mind include Antonio Gaudí, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí.
Enjoy sights and treasures that most visitors never see, from quiet city squares and medieval churches to timeless Mediterranean landscapes on excursions to Figueres, Girona, Púbol and Sitges.
Our home for the week on a recent trip was the much-loved five-star Palace Hotel (formerly the Ritz) in the center of town. And, of course, there are many opportunities to savor the triumphs of Catalan cuisine at its most creative and refined (one of our restaurants had two Michelin stars, and two others had one).
We recommend six nights for this five-star hotel trip which can include two daylong excursions outside of Barcelona.
The Brilliance of Renaissance Florence!
Celebrate the glories of magnificent Firenze, the ever-glamorous cradle of the Renaissance!
Last time around our home for the week was the lovely Hotel Lungarno at the Ponte Vecchio where we enjoyed premium rooms with spectacular Arno river views. (The hotel is owned by the Ferragamo family and is one of our all-time favorites anywhere!)
From our exquisite perch we ventured into a world of exhilarating refinement and beauty, enjoying many privately arranged visits and events and grasping the essence of the Florentine Renaissance. And while we focused on a number of universally famous works of art, we also took time to delight in lesser-known treasures that most visitors never see. Our take on Florence is designed to be an eye-opener even for travelers who have visited the city of the Medici countless times.
We suggest six nights for this trip which can be scheduled for any season. Thanksgiving and December are excellent times to visit, and we also recommend early spring.
Sicily!
See why Goethe wrote that “Without Sicily, Italy leaves no image in the soul: it is the key to everything.”
On this magnificent island surrounded by shimmering seas, travel under lapis blue skies where Greek gods once played and quarreled, Aeschylus presented new tragedies, Plato advised tyrants, Archimedes pondered physics, and St. Paul preached to wide-eyed audiences! In Palermo, usually our meeting point, we bask in the golden light of Byzantine mosaics and take in the delights of famed street markets and whimsical Baroque architecture. At Segesta, Selinunte and Agrigento, marvel at the great Greek temples which still greet the morning sun as they have for nearly two and a half thousand years! Siracusa, once a cultural beacon to the world, retains its quiet beauty as an ancient and venerable city by the sea. And Taormina, perched high on cliffs above the water, charms visitors with lively squares, flowering balconies and stunning views of the Bay of Naxos and Mount Etna. (Speaking of which, you could also include a day trip to see the crater and its fiery lava fields!)
We suggest seven nights for this adventure which, depending on the season, can combine four- and five-star hotels, or be entirely five-star.
Normandy!
Essential Normandy, from Jacques Garcia's Château du Champ de Bataille to the windswept beaches of D-Day.
Our journey through Normandy offers an extraordinary range of vivid images, solemn memories, and scents and sounds of France. The trip can be designed to include Monet’s gardens at Giverny, designer Jacques Garcia’s Château du Champ de Bataille, Rouenʼs medieval quarter and Gothic cathedral (Monet’s favorite and also where Julia Child experienced an epiphany over a famous sole meunière), the white cliffs at Étretat, maritime history at Fécamp, the picturesque port of Honfleur, Le Havre modernism, the Bayeux tapestry, Caen, the coastline of the D-Day invasion from Pegasus Bridge to Omaha Beach and Pointe-du-Hoc, and the American Military Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. If you wish, you could also include a visit to Brittany to see François Mansart’s Château de Balleroy (owned by the Forbes family), and the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel (best visited near closing time!)
We suggest six nights for this trip which in its last incarnation was based at a lovely five-star hotel in Deauville.
